Shop Smarter is a service offered by Clarus Commerce. Clarus was founded in 1999 and is based in Connecticut. Clarus offers a number of internet loyalty and shopping rewards programs including the Shop Smarter program. The program is an online shopping rewards program, allowing customers to shop online via the Shop Smarter portal and receive a standardized cash back reward on their purchases as a member of the program.

Shop Smarter members log into their account once they are members, then use the web portal to do their online shopping at the over 1000 participating retailers. Purchases made in this manner are eligible for a 10% cash back reward, which is calculated by Shop Smarter after the merchant confirms the purchase. Cashback rewards are added to the members Shop Smarter account and then once a month, the member is sent a check for their balance. Members also receive access to exclusive deals offered by the merchants that participate in the program. New members may sign up for a 7-day trial membership for the cost of $1.97. If the trial is not cancelled within the 7-day period, the account will be converted to a standard Shop Smarter membership. Regular memberships are charged at a rate of $9.97 per month. The membership renews automatically every 30 days.

There is no minimum commitment period so memberships may be cancelled at any time, refunds may or may not be available for the unused time remaining in the month if the account is cancelled before the end of the currently paid month.
