Lumosity.com is an online gaming program launched in 2007 designed with the intent on improving the player’s cognitive skills. It was created by the company Lumos Labs. Lumos Labs was founded by Kunal Sarkar, Michael Scanlon and David Drescher in 2005. Lumosity celebrated reaching 70 million members in 2015.
Lumosity includes over 60 games with specific skill sets in mind, such as math, language, speed, flexibility, problem solving and memory. There are a variety of game choices in each “training” category. Lumosity keeps track of the player’s score history as a benchmark to see where the player has improved or declined.
Lumosity can be installed as an app on mobile devices or played on a computer by visiting Lumosity.com. Members may register for free and play three pre-selected games on any given day. These games may change from day to day and the player does not have the option of which of the 60+ games to play. However, they may play the pre-selected games as many times that day as they wish. Members that choose to upgrade to a paid membership will have access to all games at any time on any day. Paid members also gain access to their own cognitive statistics and compare those with other members in the same general age category. Also included are Insights into the member’s skills such as how their writing profile compares with some of the great writers of past and present. It also gives insights as to their own monthly gains and drops, how they filter information and planning skills.
Membership pricing varies based on individual, family and friends, team or gift subscriptions. There are also frequent discounts emailed out for holidays and special occasions. Memberships are paid on an annual basis.
