DIRECTV is a great TV option for those who want a lot of channels, NFL SUNDAY TICKET access, and a traditional TV experience in their living room. This satellite TV service includes all of the channels you need, including premium channels like HBO and SHOWTIME. DIRECTV has a two-year contract with second-year price increases, but you're guaranteed a great channel variety for the family, movie buffs, and sports fans. You may need to plan ahead of time to have this great service in your home, but keep reading to find out if this is the satellite provider for you.
The price for the first year isn't too bad. You'll have to be concerned about price increases in the second year. DIRECTV includes a large number of channels and one of the best DVRs in the industry, the Genie, with each TV plan. It appears to be a good deal at first until your monthly bill nearly doubles in the second year of your contract. DIRECTV could be a 5-star service if they stop with the price hike nonsense. However, DIRECTV is the satellite service for you if you want all of your favorite channels and a TV service that is widely available across the United States.
DIRECTV has a two-year agreement. The biggest letdown is the second-year price increases, which could be a deal breaker because some of the package prices nearly double in year two of your two-year contract. For example, your monthly bill of $79.99 will increase to $129 during the second year. The most expensive PREMIER package, which currently costs $149.99 per month, will cost $214 in year two.
It will also be difficult to get out of the contract early. If you want to end the relationship, you must pay an early termination fee. This means you'll have to pay up to $20 per month when your contract is still active. So, if you want DIRECTV because of all of the channels it offers or because satellite TV is your only TV option in your area, just keep that second-year price increase in mind.
All of your family's favorite channels, such as Disney Channel, HGTV, and CNN, are available with DIRECTV's starter package. TeenNick and TV Land are two channels that you lose when switching from CHOICE to ENTERTAINMENT, but you gain ESPN and Lifetime Movie Network in exchange. The CHOICE package caters to sports-loving families. Not only do you get a few more key sports channels, such as NFL Network, but football fans will also receive a nice DIRECTV bonus. If you get CHOICE or higher, you'll get a free season subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. That means you'll be able to watch all out-of-market NFL games on your television.
This Ultimate package includes movie channels such as ENCORE Action and ENCORE Drama. If you're a big fan of Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer, you'll want to get this Tennis Channel package. And your children will enjoy Boomerang and PBS Kids. Plans ULTIMATE and lower also include three months of HBO Max, SHOWTIME, STARZ, Cinemax, and MGM+ for free. If you don't want to pay for them, just cancel after three months. The Premium package is the most extensive and includes 45+ premium channels such as HBO Max, Cinemax, STARZ, and SHOWTIME. The PREMIER package also includes Fox Deportes and Fox Soccer Channel for international sports fans.
DIRECTV offers a three-month free subscription to CINEMAX, SHOWTIME, STARZ, and MGM+ on all plans below PREMIER. That is one of the best premium channel benefits in the television industry. If you don't cancel your subscription after three months, you'll be charged $54 per month. Or simply plan ahead of time so you don't miss out on Raised by Wolves, Strike Back, or Billions.
The Genie DVR is among the best available. Customers appreciate the fact that DIRECTV comes with your first DVR. It also has a lot of storage space. The Genie DVR can record up to 200 HD hours, which is less than the DISH Hopper 3's 500 hours but far more than other competitors. The Genie DVR is one of the best-known brand DVRs. You get 4K resolution, game switching, and the ability to wirelessly connect up to eight TVs. With a single Genie DVR, you can record five programs at once and schedule them on your TV or online. You can also take your DVR recordings with you when you use the DIRECTV app. So, if you start your day with Good Morning America, you don't have to stop listening once you're on the road.
The second-year price increases for DIRECTV are a huge letdown. Even though the first year's pricing is reasonable, adding multiple receivers and premium channels can quickly add up. Aside from the price, DIRECTV provides everything you need. Most of your favorite channels are available on DIRECTV for you and your family to enjoy. It's also an NFL fan's dream, and you could get it for free for the 2023 season if you order CHOICE or higher. (Remember, it is recommended to get the ULTIMATE plan to get access to all of DIRECTV's sports channels).
