Consumer Reports is a magazine that provides unbiased product and service reviews and comparisons. It was first published in January 1936, which was well over eight decades ago. The current Editor-in-Chief is Diane Salvatore. There are over 3 million subscribers. The magazine does not accept any advertising and they pay for all of the products and services that they test. They are a non-profit organization and the goal is to provide product testing, research, public education, and advocacy. They have an in-house testing lab and a survey research center. They have various business partnering companies that they work with, including Amazon, Yahoo, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, BillShrink, and Decide.com. They also provide grants to other businesses and organizations as well.
Memberships are available to join. With a membership with Consumer Reports, you will have access to unbiased ratings and reviews, tools such as Car Recall Tracker and TV Screen Optimizer, invitations to various surveys to help inform ratings, tips on health, food, cars, tech and money, and a chance to interact with other members. You can chat online with a specialist to get one-on-one advice. The Digital plan is $7.95 per month, which includes unlimited digital access plus access to mobile apps. There is a $35 per year plan available for the Digital plan as well. The All Access plan is $55 per year and includes the benefits of the regular Digital plan, plus the access to Ask CR, which is the chance to chat with a Consumer Reports specialist for one-on-one advice.
